Oneirotych
When long time friend Marcel van Driel was going to get married to Tanja Dammers, Edwin den Ouden and I decided we, as best men, were going to give something special. Nowadays a writer of children's books, Marcel's first attempt, called "De Wereldromer" (The World Dreamer), never saw daylight, but having the manuscript, Edwin and I joined efforts and made a triptych based on it.
Edwin, who works in a comic book store, is also a very versatile drawing artist, which despite my education I am unfortunately not so much. However, I do have quite a number of tricks up my sleeve when it comes to image manipulation and thus we split our tasks in two: Edwin would paint three characters and I combine it into a backdrop and spice up the characters.
The three characters are the main antagonists in a children's fantasy tale loosely based on Babylonian mythology. The the middle character depicts Marduk, whose dreams shape the world of "Less Night". Anzu, the evil antagonist is depicted on the left side. The force of good is formed by Eliata, whose name is a bit of a mystery to me. I'm assuming it's a derivative of Eliatha or Eliathah, which means "God cometh" in the bible and is regarded as either a man's name or a prayer, or so I think. Her role is never explained in the manuscript, as it was meant to be a trilogy, but I'm guessing she's supposed to be a kind of harbinger.
